Oprah 's Magazine and Her Fans

Oprah Winfrey's magazine "O" started out as a bi-monthly publication but within six months it had expanded to a monthly offering. One million and six hundred thousand loyal fans saw to it that the magazine would be successful. The magazine can now be found not only by subscription but in thousands of stores and shops around the U.S. It had a paid circulation of 2,162,668 in 2001.

Her friend of 30 years and a former news anchor, Gayle King, is Editor at Large for the popular magazine. It has won several awards, for example, the Start Up Award in 2000, the same year it began publication. In 2007 it was number one on The Hot List from Ad World. Each publication has traditionally had just a picture of Oprah on the cover. However, nine years later, she is finally sharing the cover with First Lady Michelle Obama for a special issue. Ellen Degeneres has also been asked to share the the cover of an issue with Oprah.

The magazines theme of "become more of who you are" covers everything from simple recipes to how to get out of a difficult relationship. It carries over with many of the same themes and issues addressed in Oprah’s show. Some naysayers claim the magazine it is too full of ads or that the ads are aimed more for upper middle class readers. However, true Oprah fans can never pass up the chance to get another dose of inspiration and knowledge from their hero. The most loyal fans call “O” magazine a great guide to a wonderful life.
