Oprah's School in South Africa

In January of 2007 Oprah Winfrey opened a school for girls in South Africa. Oprah chose 152 girls to attend. The school is located in Meyerton. The school has had a big impact on the girls learning abilities. These girls would not have had the opportunity to express their learning abilities if it wasn't for Oprah. Oprah has had the chance to make a big difference in the way these girls have an outlook on their future.

Not only to learning in the classroom, the girls have taken part in non-profit organizations to help out around their towns. These girls have taken part in making their communities a better place to live. They have built houses around their community. They are also learning outside of the classroom which has helped to open up their views to what is going on around the world. The girls have been introduced to many different opportunities to help others and do something good for other people around them.

The school cost around 40 million dollars. Oprah has gotten very positive feedback but also a lot of negative feedback. Some say that she has spent way too much money on the school. Oprah feels like she is giving these girls a good chance to make something of themselves. She has said that giving this opportunity to these kids to make a better future for themselves has made her feel great. Whether the public believes that this is a good idea or not, it is benefiting the girls that attend Oprah's school.
