Oprah’s Networks

Oprah Winfrey was born January 29, 1954 in rural Mississippi to a poor single mother. She later went to live with her father in Milwaukee. By the age of 19 she was co-anchoring a the evening news on the local radio station. Since then it has been onward and upward for Oprah.

In 1998 she helped form the TV network “Oxygen” dedicated mostly to exhibiting shows that women could relate to. It has changed and now offers re-runs of certain sitcoms and reality shows. “Inhale,” which was a yoga, exercise and meditation program is the only one that is still aired from the original. Oprah has written and published several books. She has starred in several movies. Most of them have to do with different lives. Her show is mostly geared now to getting people to do better in their lives and in the lives of others. She has at several times reached out to help people in need.

She developed her “Angel Network” which was a program to geared toward inspiring people to make a difference in the lives of other people. It is a non-profit organization that is now affiliated with Habitat for Humanity, UNICEF and Boys and Girls Clubs of America. In January of 2007 Oprah was able to open “the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls” in Johannesburg, South Africa. Oprah was a forerunner in getting people together to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

OWN ( Oprah Winfrey Network) formerly the “Discovery Health Channel” will air in early in 2009, with shows dedicated to entertaining, informing and inspiring people to live their lives to their fullest potential.
