Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey was born on January 29, 1954, in rural Mississippi. She had to overcome poverty and sexual abuse. She is a determined young woman who has risen in popularity as one of the most celebrated talk show hosts, even surpassing Johnny Carson. Over the years, she has addressed many topics, including many that are considered to be taboo, such as same sex marriages and topics on religion. Winfrey continues to be a top TV personality.

In 1985, she starred as Sofia in Stephen Spielberg's movie, The Color Purple. Since then, she has done some acting but devotes most of her time to her talk show and world problems. Some of her accomplishments include producing her own magazine O in April of 2000 and a senate bill targeting child predators. She has also developed international schools for underprivileged children.

Winfrey has a close relationship with her personal trainer, Bob Greene. He has appeared on some of her talk shows to discuss the importance of diet and exercise. He asked Oprah to be his best woman in his wedding that took place in Orlando in 2005. Everything about his wedding was gender opposite to traditional weddings.

Winfrey has had many successful shows with diversified topics. Her talk show is under contract until 2010. But the word is out that she will be retiring in 2011. As a successful woman with a lot of influence on her audience, she will always remain very popular with fans from all over the world.
