Oprah, “Meet-up,” groups are starting to form in most major cities of the United States. “Meet-up,” groups are comprised of fans, who desire to get together or meet up with one another and eventually organize a, “Meet-up,” with the talk-show queen herself. In the meantime, the online message boards give fans a place to talk about their favorite celebrity, their own lives and feelings and befriend like-minded Oprah admirers. There are two Oprah fans already signed up in the Chicago area, even though the, “Meet-up,” group hasn’t yet started. They are, Stephanie from Homewood, Illinois and, Marcia Nelson of Aurora, Illinois.
There are other sites for Oprah fans, but the, “Meet-up,” groups starting up are the only ones designated by geographical location, so that fans can physically meet one another. When a 5,500 square-foot Oprah Store opened just down the street from her Harpo Studios (where the Oprah Show is taped), Chicago fans couldn’t wait to check it out from front to back. The store contains many of the celebrity’s favorite things, her quoted sayings on mugs and other objects, and of course, clothes, designed for comfort and self-expression. It’s an Oprah fan’s dream!
Since Oprah is based in Chicago, it would stand to reason that she has a huge number of fans from the area. In fact, Chicago fans consider her their city’s, “number one asset.” Interestingly, a recent study reveals that Oprah fans, “have higher stress levels than those who are not fans,” states NBC’s channel 5 in Chicago. This study was done by telephoning 1,015 households, asking them specific questions about their stress levels and whether they were Oprah fans, or not. Perhaps being stressed draws people to Ms. Winfrey, who gives some great stress-busting advice.
