Oprah fans in Arizona and across the nation tune in to laugh, cry, empathize, and learn. Many say it is her willingness to be open and face issues ranging from colon cleansing to fashion trends that keep them tuning in.
Avid fan Robin Smith admires her many philanthropic works and achievements, but especially Oprah's Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa, of which he is a dedicated supporter. As a result of his active participation, he started a fan blog.
Robin states that Oprah’s School site and blog, evolved and is located in Phoenix, Arizona. Robin believes as more fans visit and post their thoughts, it will generate even more dedicated Oprah fans.
Some fans believe Oprah worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize and are striving to help her win a nomination. Presently, fans are working to obtain 100,000 signatures to present to the panel. Rocky Twyman, founder of, "Oprah for Nobel Peace Prize," movement, met Winfrey at a fundraiser. He learned of her charitable contributions in aiding the homeless, AIDS research, and financial contributions to end racial discrimination. Twyman, among others, believing her worthy of such an honor, began working to help her achieve it.
Fans followed Oprah as far as politically campaigning for Obama, while others questioned Oprah's leaving her original choice, Clinton. Although Arizona fans, (among others) followed loyally, many did not follow her politically, and reevaluated their previous dedication due to feeling that she had "jumped ship."
