Oprah Fans Meet Up

It is well known that Oprah Winfrey's Book Club has inspired many people to pick up books that they might never have otherwise read because they trust her judgement. She has helped many books to get on best seller lists. At oprah.meetup.com/ fans of Oprah and some of the books she has featured on her program have inspired people to form groups to meet to discuss Oprah's show and books by authors that Oprah recommends.

At the MeetUp website under Oprah MeetUps there are listed 567 members in twenty two groups in twenty one cities in two countries (the USA and Canada). There are 158 other individuals that are interested in joining Oprah/book club groups in areas near their hometowns when groups are formed. There is even someone in Douala,Cameroon in Africa that is looking for others to join a discussion group about Oprah and the books she recommends.

Several of the groups formed seem to be focused on "The Secret" or books by Eckhart Tolle. The groups have also shown an interest in spirituality and philanthropy as presented by these books and by Oprah Winfrey. Other groups listed seem more interested in just finding new friends and list Oprah's show and books as one of the connecting points. They also seemed to want to get together for more social events, such as dancing, than discussion oriented.
