Oprah was recently ranked as number one in the list of the top 10 most powerful celebrities, surpassing the likes of Tiger Woods, Madonna, Brad Pitt, and the Rolling Stones. Those familiar with Oprah's history know that Boston was one of the cities that she worked in on local television, before she took the ultimate step towards Chicago to host A.M. Chicago. Bostonians haven't forgotten that, because they still love Oprah.
An example of devoted fans of Oprah would be the recipients of Julie’s Family Learning Program. This program is located in South Boston and received a $10,000 grant from Oprah’s Angel Network. Julie’s programs help strengthen family bonds and help needy families get out of poverty. It also helps that Cape Cod, just an hour outside of Boston, made Oprah’s best of the U.S. review. Boston’s devoted Oprah fans got a double shot when actor and Boston native Ben Affleck gave a tour of his hometown on Oprah, showing off Fenway Park and his favorite cheeseburger at Leo’s Place.
Finally, Boston’s most devoted fans were there to support Oprah when she defined her vision and goals in a commencement speech to Wellesley College in Massachusetts, saying that life is a journey; we should turn our wounds into wisdom, and be grateful for and focused on what life gives us. She certainly attained her goals when she stated finally that we are to create the "highest, grandest vision we can, so that we can become what we believe in."
