Seattle is Not Imune to Oprah's Charms

Gordon Curvey, host of Music Inner City in Seattle, Washington, heard Oprah was coming to town, emailed her and asked her to stop by the little studio. She did! Seattle's Oprah fans went crazy as people from all over the city came to meet her. The fans were noisy, but they stayed behind the ropes as Oprah made her way to Curvey. He did an on the spot interview and then, like the hometown boy he is, asked Oprah to ‘say hi to my mama, Loraine.’ Oprah did so with style and grace, which further endeared her to the folks of Seattle.

The talk show host had financial adviser Suze Orman as a special guest on her show and Orman told one couple to sell up in California and move to Seattle. The Seattle Oprah fan barometer sure climbed a few notches after that. The Seattle Washington Post has given her a lot of column inches. In the TV Guide section Cheers and Jeers, Bruce Frett’s column was top of the fold. He praised Oprah for “proving she has a sense of humor about herself on 30 Rock.”

Oprah sponsored the Oprah's Build Your Own Business contest, and Seattle’s Myrna Hoffman was a 2001 winner. She is a toy maker and party idea gal and has her own website, certainly stronger now with the coveted “O” stamp of approval. The folks of Seattle just can’t get enough of Oprah.

Kathleen Rooney of the Seattle Washington Post writes flattering copy about the TV icon, citing her political influence and her generosity. Seattle Times staff reporter Pamela Sitt told her readers that though it was Oprah who launched Dr. Phil’s career, in Seattle he’s not allowed to air against their beloved Oprah.
